As technology becomes less expensive and more powerful, building a 1:1 IT environment is becoming increasingly realistic for many schools.

According to the 2017 Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) infrastructure study, about half of all middle and high school students have access to a personal device at school—almost a twenty percentage point increase compared with 2016. Overall, forty percent of classrooms have a 1:1 device environment, researchers found.

If your school is among that forty percent, congratulations. You’ve reached a milestone that ten, even five, years ago may have felt out of reach.

But now what?

Having devices for every student (or most students) is one thing. Using them to transform student learning is another. Students and teachers need training and practice to be able to harness the potential of their tech tools.

An integration specialist (at VARtek, we call them CTCs, or classroom technology coaches) can bridge that gap. A CTC will do everything from designing instruction for teachers to developing pilot programs for small groups of students to live coaching in the classroom.

As you’re deploying new devices this summer and making sure your network is ready to handle your expanding tech environment, take a look at your technology team. Do you have that integration skillset on board? CTCs can often perform basic IT service, too—so having one on staff can bring your school a lot of value.

Want to learn more about how CTCs can help you get the most out of a 1:1 environment? Give VARtek a call at 800-954-2524. We provide integration services to schools all over the country and are ready to help your school IT go further.
